Many students wonder why it is important to have a basic understanding of Latin.  When one considers that many of today's world languages are rooted in Latin, it is obvious why learning Latin can be helpful in recognizing words in other languages and even deepening the student's understanding of English.  In Latin 1, homeschoolers will gain a solid foundation in the Latin language which should help them to easily pick up other Romance languages.  Latin is alive and well today, albeit in other forms.
